About
Jason Choi is a co-founder and partner of Tangent, an investment firm making principal capital investments in frontier industries.
In addition to Tangent, Jason is an active angel investor in startups pushing experimental frontiers in humanoid robotics, advanced cancer diagnostics, and consumer AI.
Prior to Tangent, Jason dedicated his career to exploring crypto after reading the Ethereum whitepaper as a college student. He later joined one of Asia’s first institutional cryptoasset investment funds, Spartan Capital, and was instrumental in scaling it from a startup hedge fund to a bona fide institution within 4 years.
As General Partner and Head of Research for Spartan’s liquid strategies, Jason co-led his team to delivering Top 5 APAC hedge fund returns in 2020 and Top 10 global hedge fund returns in 2021 (Preqin Blackrock hedge fund rankings), before stepping down to focus on personal investments via Tangent.
Jason’s podcast, Blockcrunch, which interviewed founders and investors in crypto, has had over 1M in lifetime downloads. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Wharton School of Business, and was named Forbes 30 under 30 for Venture Capital and Finance in 2022.
In his free time, he enjoys reading mystery novels, heavy metal music, and trains Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as a hobbyist.
